Intro and History

Founded in 2003, the Ridgefield Symphony Youth Orchestra is an organization that provides talented young musicians in the Ridgefield area with an exceptional musical experience and fosters an awareness and appreciation of the standard symphonic repertoire. Twenty-five young musicians were selected as members of the inaugural RSYO, with weekly rehearsals beginning in January 2003. The program has since grown to include a junior orchestra (RSJO), and now nurtures a broad range of musical talent and ability. Currently, the two orchestras consist of 72 auditioned musicians in grades four through twelve, hailing from Ridgefield and nine neighboring towns.

Dedicated musicians from Ridgefield and surrounding communities are encouraged to audition for a spot in one of our orchestras. Auditions are required and are held by appointment at the end of August each year (see Auditions for more information). In early fall all selected students kick off the new season by attending a fun and highly rewarding musical retreat at Frost Valley in the beautiful Catskill Mountains.
