Welcome to the Ridgefield Symphony Orchestra’s 2010-11 “Season of Choice!”
In this, our 46th Season, we're offering something for absolutely every musical taste – and we're giving you more options than ever before. In our core Classical series, we've programmed masterpieces from Tchaikovsky's beloved first piano concerto, with world-renowned guest artist Gayle Martin Henry, to a world premiere by New York-based composer, Edmund Cionek. We continue our exploration of the orchestral works of Johannes Brahms with the reflective Third Symphony; and, partnering with the Fairfield County Chorale, Brahms' own orchestration of his Liebeslieder Waltzes. Our classical series ends with an aural visit to Paris, featuring favorite compositions by Berlioz and Bizet, and ending our 46th Season with Ravel's orchestral showpiece “La Valse.” In addition to our Classical series, this season we're debuting our “Stage and Screen” series. Our Broadway night has been a huge success the past two seasons, and this year, YOU are choosing the repertoire! We're building on that success by adding an RSO “Night at the Movies.” Included will be favorite film scores from Hitchcock's “Spellbound,” Disney's “The Incredibles” and John Williams' “Harry Potter.” Guaranteed to be an evening you, and your entire family will not want to miss.
As I begin my third season as Music Director, The Ridgefield Symphony Orchestra continues to achieve higher and higher musical goals. I am proud of the musicianship and dedication of our members, and thrilled with the support of our ever-expanding audiences, both for pre-concert lectures and for concerts. I am equally proud of the active role the Symphony plays in the community, as a cultural centerpiece of a town rich in the arts, and as a source of music education for students, churches, senior communities, and various groups and organizations in and around Ridgefield. Thank you for choosing the Ridgefield Symphony Orchestra. We’re grateful for your support, proud of the work we are doing, and honored to provide symphonic music at unforgettable events throughout the year.
Enjoy the season!
