Petko
Dimitrov, Conductor
Petko Dimitrov is the Music Director of the Ridgefield
Symphony Youth Orchestra and Assistant Conductor of the
Ridgefield Symphony Orchestra. Mr. Dimitrov also serves as
Assistant Conductor of the Haddonfield Symphony and
Principle Guest Conductor of the New Symphony Orchestra in
Sofia, Bulgaria. In 2007, the Bruno Walter Memorial
Foundation awarded Petko its prestigious emerging conductor
award.
Petko was born in 1973. He took his first music lessons at
the age of seventeen from his grandfather, a choral
conductor, arranger, and composer. He graduated the State
Academy of Music in 2000 with a Bachelor Degree in Music
Pedagogy. In his native Bulgaria he also studied orchestra
conducting with Ivan Bakalov, Vassil Kazandjiev, and Rossen
Milanov. Petko made his debut as a conductor with the New
Symphony Orchestra, Sofia, Bulgaria, in May 1998, performing
a concert with music by Sir Michael Tippet and Henry
Purcell, in collaboration with The British Council. Since
then he has been an assistant Conductor of the Orchestra and
has performed subscription concerts and commissions
regularly. He has also been active as a Conductor of a
Chamber Ensemble of The New Symphony Orchestra.
Since 2001 Petko Dimitrov has been studying and working in
the United States. In 2004 he completed his Master Degree in
Orchestra Conducting at the University of Michigan, Ann
Arbor, under the direction of Prof. Kenneth Kiesler. During
his time in Ann Arbor, Michigan, he performed concerts with
the University of Michigan Symphony Orchestra, Campus
Philharmonia Orchestra, and Campus Symphony Orchestra.
Recently, Petko completed his studies with Prof. Gustav
Meier at the Peabody Conservatory, John Hopkins University
in Baltimore, MD, where he pursued a Graduate Performance
Diploma in Orchestral Conducting. As an assistant conductor
of the Peabody Symphony Orchestra Mr. Dimitrov took over a
performance of Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring with only
three days notice.
T.D.Ellis, Artistic Director
T.D.
Ellis received his musical education at the Hartt School of
Music and the State University of New York at Purchase. He
is principal bassoonist and personnel manager of the
Ridgefield Symphony and Bermuda Philharmonic, and has
appeared as a soloist with the Ridgefield Symphony and
Chappaqua Chamber Orchestra. Mr. Ellis also plays bassoon
and contrabassoon with the Greenwich Symphony and Greater
Bridgeport Symphony. He may often be heard with many
orchestras throughout the metropolitan New York area. He is
a founding member of the RidgeWinds Quintet; has performed
with the Quintet of the Americas and was a
guest-artist-in-residence at Sarah Lawrence College. He has
played off-Broadway with the New York Gilbert & Sullivan
Players and the Jewish Repertory Theater, and has been
principal bassoon for the Ives Festival Orchestra, the
Tamworth (NH) Music Festival, and the Garrett Lakes Arts
Festival in Deep Creek, Maryland. He teaches bassoon at
Fail-field University and the University of Bridgeport.
Caroline Chanin
Caroline
Chanin has sung at Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, New York's
Town Hall, The National Arts Club, the Vineyard Theatre and
the Westport Country Playhouse in its acclaimed production
of A Christmas Carol directed by Tazewell Thompson. In
opera, Ms. Chanin has performed the title role in Rossini's
La Cenerentola and has sung Hansel in Humperdinck's Hansel
and Gretel. She has performed principal roles in Le Nozze di
Figaro (Cherubino), Tales of Hoffmann (Giulietta) and Cosi
Fan Tutte (Dorabella). Regional musical theatre credits
include Lady Thiang in The King and I, Julie in Showboat and
Yente in Fiddler on the Roof. Ms. Chanin has also presented
song recitals throughout the United States and Canada.
William Joiner
Over the course of his career, tenor William Joyner has
given more than 475 performances of 50 different roles, in
10 countries on 3 continents. He has sung in some of the
world’s foremost opera theaters, including Milan’s Teatro
alla Scala, Bologna’s Teatro Comunale, Venice’s Gran Teatro
la Fenice, Paris’ Opéra National (Bastille), Brussels’
Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie, Berlin’s Deutsche Oper and
Deutsche Staatsoper, The Washington National Opera, Miami’s
Florida Grand Opera, The New York City Opera, and The Santa
Fe Opera. William Joyner has performed with the Chicago
Symphony, the New York Philharmonic, and the Münchener
Rundfunkorchester, and has worked with some of the greatest
maestri of our time, including Daniel Barenboim, the late
Gary Bertini, Bertrand de Billy, John DeMain, Heinz Fricke,
the late Armin Jordan, Vladimir Jurowski, Anne Manson,
Antonio Pappano, Georges Prêtre, and the late Marcello
Viotti.
When not traveling, William Joyner lives in Connecticut with
his family.
