Soloist's Biographies

MICHAEL LABARRE

Pianist MICHAEL LaBARRE earned his Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education magna cum laude in 2000 from Manhattanville College and subsequently a BS degree in Music Education from Western Connecticut State University, where he studied composition under Dr. Mary Ann Joyce; musicology under Drs. Carmelo Comberiati and Anthony La Magra; piano and organ under Dr. Francis Brancaleone, choral conducting under John Cuk, orchestral conducting under Elliot Magaziner, and pursued vocal studies with Boyd Schlaeffer and Gloria Capone. He continues to be an active composer and musician for church and schools, the two venues that capture his most passionate interest.

As a church musician, he has served as Church Music Director, Organist, and Choirmaster for St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Danbury, St. Elizabeth Seton in Ridgefield, Our Lady of Peace Church in Stratford, and is currently an organist and cantor for St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Norwalk. And in addition to his service to the Church, he is also an active music educator and school choir director at Scotts Ridge Middle School in Ridgefield, where his choirs have won Gold and Silver awards at Fantastic Festivals in Bristol, Connecticut.

Mr. LaBarre is also a staunch proponent of music in the schools; particularly at the middle school level. Moreover, he currently serves as Choral Chair for the annual Western Regional Music Festival in Danbury and is an active member of the American Choral Directors Association, Music Educators National Conference, Connecticut Music Educators Association, and American Guild of Organists.
